The caption for a picture on page three says, “Tim O. machines a component for the Honduran 206.” Let me tell you a little more about that.

Restoration of the Cessna model 206 required replacement of the airplane’s propeller. The new propeller’s hub is an improved design which the original prop spinner bulkhead doesn’t fit. The bulkhead, however, may be modified so it can be installed on the new style propeller hub. That’s what Tim is doing in the picture—milling the spinner bulkhead in accordance with an approved drawing from the propeller manufacturer.

Before coming to serve with MMS Aviation, Tim accumulated considerable experience in a machine shop. He often makes tooling that enables our mechanics to accomplish maintenance on the planes in our care. Tim also freely shares his knowledge of lathe and milling machine operation with the mechanics who serve and train here.

Tim’s skill in using the milling machine is only part of the successful prop spinner modification. Several years ago, a friend of MMS learned that a commercial machine shop near him would sell a small used milling machine in order to upgrade their shop’s equipment. Not only did he arrange for MMS to buy it, he donated the funds necessary for the purchase!

As 2009 draws to a close, fourteen families make up MMS Aviation’s core staff. Two single men and two families are in the training program. Each person brings knowledge and skill gained through previous experience which enables MMS to better serve the mission aviation community.

Our good, wise and sovereign Creator provides the people, equipment, and finances necessary for MMS to fulfill its purpose. Scripture tells us, “Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows.” (James 1:17 NIV) I rejoice in good and perfect gifts, whether they are the skill of a coworker, a tool that lets us serve, or the privilege and responsibility to take the good news of Christ to the ends of the earth.

This month we celebrate Jesus coming to earth to bear our sin so we can be reconciled to God. So, let’s “Go tell it on the mountain, over the hills and everywhere . . .” (Use airplanes if necessary.)

Celebrating Christmas,
